Progress Update ~ 07/22/2022

So... heh heh... it's been more than a month since that last update. Promises of due dates I set myself, cryptic messages containing more due dates that I became more and more serious about finally fulfilling, but still no final update. Don't get me wrong, there's been a lot of rewrites and positive progress made in the past month, but I came to realize that I was a lot more burnt out than I'd thought. In trying to push myself to work on this project, I was making it harder and harder to make any actual progress. It felt more like a looming guilt than the fun motivation I was looking for.

And so, here we are, on the twenty second of July. Like I mentioned, where the game is at right now is looking better than ever, but it is still an incomplete build. I am not going to give a specific release date again until I am 110% SURE that that is when you will be getting a release. (My current aim is to have at least a majority of the fine polishing done before I start school in September, but no promises~)

Current Progress includes~

* Funky fresh and royalty-free GUI assets have been found via an old forums post (which will be linked and credited), and I have begun replacing a solid chunk of renpy's default game layout with a little menu style change~

* More writing has been written, edited, deleted and written again... the works

* The coding has grown less organized that I would've liked, but thankfully I can still find all of my variables and screens alright. Progress on those fronts has been going well, especially with my variables

Having finally made this project for the Queer Game Jam 2022 bundle, I was really pushing to have a finished product by the end of June, ideally that people could play as soon as possible once the bundle was released.

That didn't happen. And that's okay.

I'd much rather release something to be proud of making than to slap something together for the sake of garnering slightly more exposure through the bundle. That being said, the game jam for this bundle is what really pushed me to create this project; it gave me a purpose to do so, and it made funds available to commission such epic sprites, as well as a bit more money saved to use for up and coming projects I've started brainstorming on. Something I've learned throughout the past few months is that I am DEFINITELY going to work with more people on my future projects. Hopefully that will keep me motivated better and allow for me to better focus on more specific parts of my future games, rather than spreading myself too thin just covering all the bases.

I want to send another big thank you to igladurfun for playtesting the game version I was at about 10 days ago. Thanks Liam! :) More of his epic music work will be heard going into this next update~

Not sure when I will update this page again, but know that I won't let this reach total radio silence for another month. Thank you for taking the chance to read this, I hope the rest of your day or 3am night goes well :)
